Pistons get some respect

Check out the front page of the Detroit Free Press. On the other hand check out this article, which concludes that:
[D]efense wins championships, but dynasties are built by all-around teams.

Teams built solely around a defensive scheme can win a title, but seldom capture multiple titles.

Did not the Pistons of yore win consecutive championships based primarily on a "defensive scheme"? Speaking of defense, despite the glee, it seems that much of the Detroit media are inordinately insecure when it comes to their Detroit Pistons. See, for example, the always entertaining Mitch Albom:
Enough already about the team upended. Can the sports world focus on the team that did the upending? If folks watching this series weren't so busy rubbing their eyes, they might have seen more of the obvious: The Pistons outplayed the Lakers in every facet of the game. Outrebounded them, outdefensed them, outhustled them, and, yes, outshot them. Hello? If the Pistons' offense is so awful, well, it scored more points in four out of five games -- so what does that make the Lakers' offense?

You know what? Who cares? "Lakers" is now just another word the Pistons have scratched out, alongside Milwaukee, New Jersey and Indiana.

Speaking of respect, the Cayman newspapers, Cayman Net News and Cayman Compass, which do report frequently on happenings in the US, have not a single article in today's papers on Detroit's victory.

It was a good game and I agree with whatchmacallit, Album?, that Pistons outplayed Lakers in all respects. Lakers demonstrate that being where the hype artists are is more important than being good. But to be fair, the Lakers seem to have lost their edge. Haven't watched much b-ball this season; however, their record indicates they were better earlier in year. Moral: 1. the Piston must resist inviting young women into their hotel rooms. 2. Your big men should heed Samson and not shave their head.

No b-ball interest on Grand Cayman? Or do too few tax-evaders from Detroit area bank in the Caymans?

Very funny, Euge. To be fair a co-worker, who is Caymanian, did comment to me on Detroit's victory.

Overall, I think there is much more interest in British/European sports. Cricket is very popular. And just this past weekend, Cayman hosted a Rugby tournament which got a lot of press.

I've been to a cricket match (didn't understand a damn thing) but have not yet made it to a rugby match.

Dad, that King Kaufman article you pointed me to was pretty good.

Kath, regarding riots, this is what Kaufman proposed:
"Detroit police should encourage marijuana use to calm the crowds, in imitation of a policy used by the Lisbon, Portugal, authorities to keep English soccer fans from getting too rowdy at Euro 2004 this week." There were no post-game riots and to my knowledge this was achieved proactively sedating the revelers. A respondant, angry with Kaufman's charge replied as follows:
"Since the 1984 rioting that followed the Tigers World Series victory, they uniformly informed me, the Pistons had won two championships and the Red Wings three without any civil disturbance."
