Army rations rehydrated by...

can you guess? The New Scientist reports that the US military have developed a dried food ration that troops can hydrate by peeing on it. The ration comes in a pouch with a filter that removes 99.9% of the bacteria and "most" of the toxic chemicals in one's piss. This is an important advance in preparing for future military operations in desert environments. Prepations of this sort have been sadly lacking in our liberation of the Iraqi people. Indeed, urinating is central to understanding the much-fantasizing-no-foresight or dog-and-car syndrome which in today's NYT is said to be an accurate metaphor of what has happened to the Bush administration in Iraq, to wit: Dogs spend a lot of time thinking about chasing cars but when they finally catch one they don't really know what to do with it [besides, allow me to note, pissing on the tires].
